Field Trip: NorthPark Mall

Got some good news and some bad news for you.  I’ll start with the bad (so it just gets sweeter from there).

-The bad news is that we had to delay our plans to move into a new studio in order to focus on rebuilding our website.  p.s. if you are reading this you are beta testing our design so we appreciate comments and feedback, preferably over coffee…

-The good news is that even with the website under construction we have booked almost every possible workday for September and October already!! That makes my our life so easy.  It makes it easy to spend large amounts of time or money to develop and perfect our craft, our space and our staff when we can see on the calendar 100 different reasons to improve ourselves.  I’m talking to you, repeat clients.  Every time you come back the pressure is on to do something completely unique and original from last time’s session and something that you will love just the same (or more) than last time.

So we hit the streets for inspiration.  As always, here are some of photos of our “research” shopping trip.

We try to keep it fresh around here and visit independent designers and smaller boutiques most of the time.  The smaller stores always have more character.  We like to think that there’s still love there for ‘the craft’.  And there’s a little more anarchy and chaos in shops like that.

But today we did none of that.  We hit up some national retailers (that we adore) to see some of their fall trends hitting the floor and some of their summer trends exiting the scene.

This is what we saw:

-A lot of Spring’s emerald color trend on sale now -(really, like, a sea of emerald sale racks)

-Stripes for Fall-  Our favorites are sophisticated, delicate and timeless

-Lots of navy and white translating into fall accessories (which surprised us since its more of a summer/nautical palette, but hey, we can dig it)

We picked up a couple whimsical headbands from Anthropologie, some Victoria Secret robe-like accessories, and nothing at Michael Kors.

I know what you’re thinking: “Nothing at Michael Kors??”  –  We know. It was very sad. But this was a work shopping trip. The handbags and jewelry are so pretty and rich (especially the navy & gold satchel – we love you!) but they are so distracting from the main focus of our photo shoots: faces. eyes. smiles.

I’m sure we’ll be picking up some MK gear soon… but sadly not today.  We let Michael inspire some bold fall makeup looks to add to our makeup guides and left it at that.
